Marc Skinner has vacated his role as manager of the Manchester United women’s team just weeks before the Women’s Super League begins. The 43-year-old concludes a five-year tenure that saw the club secure its inaugural major honor by winning the 2024 Women’s FA Cup. Under his leadership, the team also achieved their first-ever qualification for the Women’s Champions League group stages and appeared in three domestic cup finals.
The decision was made following discussions between Skinner and the club during the summer, resulting in a mutual separation. Skinner had previously voiced apprehension regarding the level of investment directed toward the playing squad, particularly as rivals like Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal bolstered their rosters. Manchester United has shifted its recruitment strategy this year, prioritizing younger talent to ensure future stability.
United is scheduled to open their league season away against London City Lionesses on September 4. The club has reportedly already made significant progress in identifying a successor, with a primary focus on finding a coach experienced in talent development.
