The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) is urging the government to prioritize tax harmonization, infrastructure upgrades, consistent energy delivery, and a clear regulatory landscape to revive the nation’s industrial sector. This plea was delivered by MAN President Francis Meshioye during the 41st Annual General Meeting of the association’s Ogun branch in Abeokuta.
Meshioye noted that industrial operators have faced significant strain from recent government economic reforms, which have driven up production expenses and hampered investment. He defined manufacturing resilience as the ability to endure economic instability and policy shifts while maintaining employment and competitiveness. To achieve this, he advocated for smart regulations, low-interest financing, and measures to shield local businesses from unfair import practices.
The association leader highlighted the need for government bodies to focus on fostering growth rather than prioritizing revenue collection. While noting some progress on safety audit fees, Meshioye emphasized that the burden of multiple taxation and decaying road networks in hubs like Agbara, Ota, and Sagamu remains a critical hurdle. He further called on the Federal Government to provide transparency regarding 2025 tax legislation, move against retroactive taxes, and ensure the Central Bank of Nigeria honors outstanding foreign exchange obligations to manufacturers.
