A unified security task force in Enugu State is actively searching for armed individuals suspected of kidnapping three people during a Sunday morning attack at a church in Inoyi, located within the Affa Community of Udi Local Government Area. The task force includes police personnel, Forest Guards, and members of the local Neighbourhood Watch.
SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the pursuing officers managed to force the kidnappers to drop one victim, who was recovered without injury. Two other individuals remain in the custody of the assailants.
Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa has ordered the Area Commander of Oji-River and the Violent Crime Response Unit to ramp up search operations using all necessary resources. Additionally, the State Intelligence Department has been tasked with gathering intelligence to support the rescue mission. Surveillance and technical assets from the Enugu State Command-and-Control Centre are also being utilized.
The Commissioner requested that community members remain composed and provide reliable tips to help locate the remaining victims. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the assault at St. Joseph Catholic Church began around 8:30 a.m., involving the abduction of a seminarian, a catechist, and two parishioners.
