The Labour Party (LP) is calling on various opposition factions to abandon efforts to create new alliances and instead consolidate their strength by joining its existing political structure before the 2027 general elections. The party claims it maintains the most effective national framework to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
National Publicity Secretary Ken Asogwa released a statement in Abuja on Sunday asserting that forming additional political groups would only fragment the opposition. He argued that the Labour Party remains the most practical choice for a unified front.
The party highlighted its unique advantage through its institutional ties with the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress. These unions provide the party with deep connections to both active and retired civil servants across every community in Nigeria. The LP suggests this provides a grassroots reach that surpasses even that of the APC.
Instead of building new coalitions, the party suggests that those interested in challenging the status quo should contribute to the LP’s existing network. The party emphasized that it already possesses a well-organized structure and a capable presidential candidate, making the pursuit of new coalition arrangements counterproductive to the goal of winning the presidency.
