Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has expressed skepticism regarding reports that Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr could transfer to Arsenal. Widely considered one of the globe’s top attackers, the Brazilian star has registered 128 goals and 100 assists in 375 appearances for the Spanish giants. His strong showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he recorded four goals and an assist in five games, has further elevated his status.
Although Arsenal is reportedly interested in the 26-year-old as his contract nears its 2027 expiration, Cascarino finds the prospect of a move to North London highly improbable. Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Irish international highlighted that players rarely leave Real Madrid due to the club’s superior financial power. While Arsenal secured Martin Odegaard after a loan period, Cascarino maintains that Vinicius Jr’s established tenure and importance to Real Madrid set this situation apart.
Financial hurdles remain a central issue in his contract negotiations. Reports suggest Vinicius Jr is demanding an annual salary of €30 million, whereas Real Madrid has currently countered with €20 million. While speculation indicates Arsenal might be prepared to restructure their wage hierarchy to accommodate the forward, Cascarino remains doubtful that a deal will materialize.
