During the ‘Divine Champion’ themed thanksgiving service in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, he expressed his desire to see the nation reclaim its former status as a dominant force in international athletics.
Reflecting on the nature of struggles, Adeboye utilized boxing as a metaphor for faith. He outlined that genuine success relies on three factors: innate strength, wisdom, and the guidance of an expert coach. He cautioned against relying solely on human effort, noting that divine support is essential for overcoming life’s inevitable challenges.
The cleric highlighted the career of Muhammad Ali to illustrate the necessity of strategic wisdom. Furthermore, he defined a high-quality mentor as one who pushes individuals to improve beyond their current limitations, designating Jesus Christ as the ultimate coach for believers. He urged attendees to remain resilient, encouraging them to view periods of struggle as opportunities for rest and regrouping before rising again.
Following the session, Pastor Oladele Balogun, the administrative assistant to the General Overseer, urged parents to prioritize moral education at home. He argued that the decline in societal integrity stems from a breakdown in parental guidance, emphasizing that teaching children discipline is critical for national recovery.
