The Imole Campaign Council, representing Governor Ademola Adeleke in his re-election bid, has requested that Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu prioritize the safety of Osun residents for the upcoming governorship election on August 15.
During a press briefing in Osogbo, Deputy Director-General Kolapo Alimi stressed that police officers must remain professional and neutral to protect the democratic process and public trust. Alimi, who serves as the state’s Commissioner for Information, advised the police leadership to re-evaluate security deployments to ensure that only honest and impartial personnel are assigned to duty.
Alimi also voiced concerns regarding the alleged targeting of Accord Party members for arrest by political opponents. He requested that the Inspector-General launch an investigation into reports of harassment and illegal detentions of party leaders. He called on party members and the general public to maintain peace while standing firm in their right to vote, while simultaneously urging police authorities in Osun and Abuja to stop the harassment of specific political leaders.
