The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has restated that its former lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, remains dismissed. Emma Powerful, the group’s spokesperson, stated that any attempt by a group of expelled members to rehire Ejiofor is completely invalid.
In a statement released on Saturday, Powerful dismissed the documents presented by Ejiofor as legally meaningless. He clarified that Chika Edoziem, the individual who reportedly signed the reappointment letter, has already been removed from the organization. According to Powerful, expelled persons possess no authority to appoint legal representation for the movement.
Powerful emphasized that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s decision to terminate Ejiofor’s services is final. He accused the former lawyer of professional negligence, claiming that Ejiofor’s failures are a significant factor in Kanu’s ongoing detention. The spokesperson warned Ejiofor to stop interfering with the group’s legal affairs and to cease acting on behalf of the organization.
This development follows a formal letter dated July 22, in which Nnamdi Kanu confirmed the dismissal of his lawyer. Kanu had previously communicated this decision verbally but decided to document it to prevent further unauthorized representation. Kanu further cautioned the lawyer against disclosing any sensitive or private information related to his case.
