Ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026, the All Progressives Congress and Governor Ademola Adeleke’s Imole Campaign Council have engaged in a heated exchange. Both groups are actively soliciting voter support while trading serious accusations regarding governance and security.
Representing the Osun APC, Kola Olabisi criticized Governor Adeleke for his administration’s perceived inability to curb political violence and criminal activity since taking office in late 2022. The APC party officials explicitly questioned the governor’s record and demanded accountability, claiming his government has been permissive toward criminal elements.
In response, the Imole Campaign Council, led by spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi, dismissed these claims as baseless. Instead, the council accused the APC of fostering an environment of fear and intimidation throughout the state. Olajengbesi asserted that citizens are ready to vote against such tactics, citing the administration’s achievements in paying worker salaries, maintaining infrastructure, and improving public welfare as reasons for confidence.
The Imole Campaign Council has requested that the Inspector General of Police and the Department of State Services prioritize a secure, transparent election process. They further called for the prosecution of any individuals linked to electoral violence, regardless of their political party.
