Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has pledged to intensify efforts to eliminate criminal activity throughout the state. This initiative was highlighted during the graduation ceremony for 1,000 Armed Forest Guards, a program developed alongside the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Department of State Services.
During the event at the DSS Development Centre in Afaka, Governor Sani noted that these guards will act as local first responders. They will collaborate with traditional security forces to gather intelligence and prevent criminals from utilizing forests for illegal operations. These recruits were drawn from the Kaduna Vigilance Service and underwent advanced training to maximize their effectiveness.
The guards are authorized to carry high-grade weaponry to better counter threats from terrorists. Because they are deployed within their home communities, their deep knowledge of the local geography is expected to improve surveillance outcomes. National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu praised Kaduna for leading this initiative, calling it the most successful program of its kind in Nigeria.
Governor Sani expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the supporting security agencies. He has already requested the training of 1,000 additional guards to expand the program. Moving forward, his administration remains focused on intelligence-led security to protect residents and ensure regional stability.
