Members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council in Osun State have formally opposed the caretaker committee installed by the national leadership. The group is demanding an election to replace the state executive team, whose term concluded this past February.
Previously, a state election was organized but was halted indefinitely when the national committee failed to arrive at the designated location. In a recent move, the national body appointed Odesola Oluseyi Titus, the Action Peoples Party chairman in Osun, as the caretaker lead. This decision was met with immediate pushback from representatives of 15 out of the 22 political parties operating in the region.
Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, who leads the Democratic Leadership Alliance, spoke on behalf of the coalition in Osogbo. He condemned the national leadership for bypassing democratic processes and failing to consult with local stakeholders. He questioned how the organization could criticize national election bodies for failures when it cannot manage an internal vote involving only 22 parties.
The coalition declared the caretaker arrangement invalid and called for the resignation of the current National Executive Committee members, citing incompetence and a lack of transparency. The group includes representatives from major parties such as the All Progressives Congress, Labour Party, and African Action Congress, among others.
