Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has requested that residents avoid turning security issues into political matters. During the 2026 Yaumul Shukur celebration held on Saturday, he emphasized that restoring peace requires prayer, unity, and full cooperation with security forces rather than political infighting. The event marked the historic 1934 merger of the former Katsina and Daura Provinces.
The governor noted that the annual thanksgiving, a long-standing tradition in the region, is meant to express gratitude and petition for divine protection. He honored the legacies of former Presidents Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Muhammadu Buhari, alongside other prominent scholars and legal experts who served the nation.
To combat regional instability, Radda highlighted the government’s efforts to enhance local defense through the Katsina State Community Watch Corps. He noted that collaborative efforts between this local group and official security agencies recently resulted in the neutralization of over 40 suspected bandits, including a key leader. Radda firmly condemned the use of tragic violence for political gain, stating that human lives should never be treated as bargaining chips. The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk Umar, echoed these sentiments, calling on the public to preserve the unity established by the area’s founding figures.
