The Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship campaign has criticized the state government for allegedly exploiting the education sector for political gain. The opposition claims that public school teachers and administrators were pressured to attend a campaign meeting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, also known as Yayi.
Afolabi Orekoya, representing the PDP candidate, stated that a memo circulating among school staff originated from the leadership of teachers’ unions under the direction of TESCOM Chairman Alhaji Comrade Adeosun Tajudeen Adekunle and the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). The directive allegedly requested educators to gather at the Alake Pavilion in Abeokuta on August 3, 2026, under the guise of official administrative business.
The PDP denounced the move as an improper use of public resources and a violation of civil service neutrality. The party argues that compelling teachers to participate in political events in uniform is coercive and undermines their professional integrity. They urged the government to prioritize educational improvements over political mobilization.
In response, TESCOM Chairman Biodun Sanyaolu rejected these claims, stating that the commission issued no such mandate. He maintained that the meeting was initiated by teacher unions themselves to interact with Senator Adeola, who has supported their interests over the past four years. Sanyaolu characterized the accusations as false and emphasized that the candidate has engaged with numerous professional groups across the state without compulsion.
