Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang recently shared how former governor Senator Jonah Jang profoundly influenced his political path, identifying him as both a mentor and an inspiration for his current administration. Mutfwang spoke at the launch of Jang’s memoir, titled From Soldiering to Politics: Here I Stand, which coincided with the elder statesman’s 80th birthday celebration in Jos.
During the event, Mutfwang emphasized that Jang’s impact extended far past his assistance in helping him secure the governorship. He praised the former Air Commodore as a model of discipline and dedicated public service. Mutfwang expressed deep gratitude for their relationship and stated his commitment to honoring Jang, acknowledging that he viewed him as a personal role model.
The governor specifically highlighted the enduring physical and institutional foundations established during Jang’s time in power. He committed to finishing key infrastructure projects begun by his predecessor, arguing that these initiatives remain essential for the state’s progress. Mutfwang also championed the new autobiography as a significant historical resource, encouraging Nigerian youth to adopt values of integrity and selflessness.
The celebration drew a wide array of prominent figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and former President Goodluck Jonathan, to honor the career of the former military officer and senator. Mutfwang concluded his tribute by wishing the retired leader continued health and strength.
