Law enforcement officials in Ogun State successfully disrupted a cult induction ceremony in the Ibogun Shomi area of Ifo Local Government on Friday. Acting on reliable tips, a joint task force consisting of anti-robbery, surveillance, and patrol units raided the site, taking 17 individuals into custody. Authorities seized a homemade shotgun and an axe during the operation.
The arrested suspects, ranging in age from 18 to 30, include Daniel Chigozie, Oyewole Basit, Samuel Olusegun, Ifadire Olamilekan, Bello David, William Michael, Adams Yusuf, Ridwan Odukoya, Olsesi Abayomi, Seyi Ridwan, Ayankunle Isaiah, Oluyemi Michael, Hussain Samuel, Temitope Adesoji, Achika Waliu, Ashipa Sodiq, and Kolade Oluwaseun. The case has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran for further processing.
In unrelated police actions, officers from the Owode Division worked alongside local vigilantes to apprehend Abubakar Umaru. He is accused of stealing a Bajaj motorcycle from outside a mosque in Ajilete Yewa using a master key; his partner remains at large. Separately, police in Obantoko captured Ibrahim Aliyu within the Goshen Estate after receiving a report about property theft. Officers recovered a dismantled industrial air conditioner and two generators from Aliyu, and they are currently examining his potential connection to other local burglary cases.
