Michaela Walsh secured her third Commonwealth Games silver medal for Northern Ireland after a unanimous points defeat against Indian boxer Jaismine Jaismine. This result marks the fourth time the Holy Family representative has medaled across her four consecutive Games appearances, mirroring her runner-up finishes from 2014 and 2018.
Despite her previous success in Birmingham, the 33-year-old was unable to overcome her opponent in this matchup. The judges were unanimous in their scoring, with three awarding the bout 29-28 to Jaismine and two scoring it 30-27. Walsh began the fight slowly and faced a deficit after a tactical opening round. Although she pushed aggressively for a stoppage in the final round, Jaismine successfully defended her lead to secure the gold.
Walsh now shares a record of four Commonwealth medals with athletes including Neil Booth, Martin Millar, Mike Bull, and Lady Mary Peters. This silver is the 11th medal for Northern Ireland at the Glasgow Games. Looking ahead, teammates Kaci Rock and Jon McConnell remain in contention for boxing gold as they prepare for their respective finals later today.
