Despite this form, City rewarded the academy graduate with a four-year extension lasting until 2030. Foden expressed that the deal provides him with a sense of relief, allowing him to concentrate on becoming his best self to repay the organization. The appointment of Enzo Maresca, who previously served as an academy coach and assistant at the Etihad, is seen as a positive change by Foden. The player noted that having a pre-existing relationship with the Italian manager has made the transition smoother. Maresca even reached out to Foden after his exclusion from the 2026 World Cup squad, a gesture the midfielder described as indicative of the manager’s character. Now fully recovered from a previous ankle injury and personal challenges, Foden remains optimistic about City’s ability to compete for all major trophies despite the departure of key figures like Guardiola.
