Phil Foden eager to honor Manchester City’s commitment with a fresh beginning

Phil Foden is determined to reward Manchester City’s faith in him following a contract extension, looking forward to a revitalized performance under new manager Enzo Maresca.

Manchester City star Phil Foden is focused on honoring the club’s confidence in him as he begins a new chapter under manager Enzo Maresca. The 26-year-old, who secured the PFA player of the year award following a 19-goal title-winning campaign in 2023-24, has faced a difficult period recently. He managed only 10 goals last season and has not scored in his previous 31 appearances for club and country.

Despite this form, City rewarded the academy graduate with a four-year extension lasting until 2030. Foden expressed that the deal provides him with a sense of relief, allowing him to concentrate on becoming his best self to repay the organization. Foden has enjoyed a long tenure at the club since debuting under Pep Guardiola at age 17, collecting numerous trophies including six Premier League titles.

The appointment of Enzo Maresca, who previously served as an academy coach and assistant at the Etihad, is seen as a positive change by Foden. The player noted that having a pre-existing relationship with the Italian manager has made the transition smoother. Maresca even reached out to Foden after his exclusion from the 2026 World Cup squad, a gesture the midfielder described as indicative of the manager’s character. Now fully recovered from a previous ankle injury and personal challenges, Foden remains optimistic about City’s ability to compete for all major trophies despite the departure of key figures like Guardiola.
