During a mission against oil theft in Rivers State, the Nigerian Navy intercepted approximately 87,000 litres of diesel suspected to be illegally refined. The seizure occurred in the Okarki region as part of Operation Delta Sentinel after troops located a clandestine storage site.
Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Director of Information, confirmed the details on Friday in Abuja. He noted that members of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Soroh executed the operation based on reliable intelligence, which led them to the hidden facility used to hoard petroleum products.
The site contained the diesel along with various tools used for illicit storage. Folorunsho stated that the recovered fuel was processed following official protocols. The Navy emphasized that this discovery underscores how criminal syndicates operate secret sites in the Niger Delta to fuel the black market.
Removing these facilities disrupts the infrastructure required for crude theft and illegal refining. The Navy remains committed to securing national assets and preventing economic sabotage by criminal elements.
