Security Guard Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Company Property in Ogun

Operatives from the Onipanu Division of the Ogun State police have arrested a 59-year-old security guard, Olaitan Matthew, for allegedly stealing electric motor parts from the company where he works.

Matthew, employed as a security guard at a company located in Tomori, Animashaun Estate, in the Ota area of the state, was apprehended at around 4:30 am on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

The arrest occurred when the anti-crime team of the division questioned him and found he could not provide a satisfactory explanation for how he acquired the stolen motor parts.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, stated that after being interrogated, the suspect, Olaitan Matthew, confessed to stealing the electric motor parts from the company during a temporary halt in production.

Odutola said: “On January 15, 2025, at about 4:30 am, the Anti-Crime Team of the Onipanu Division apprehended a 59-year-old security guard named Olaitan Matthew at Land Star Company, located in Tomori Estate, Animashaun Estate, Ota.

“He was found in possession of electric motor parts, and he was unable to give satisfactory answers on how the items came into his possession. When he was further pressed, he admitted that they had been stolen from the very company he was employed to protect.”

Odutola added that an investigation is ongoing to recover other items that Olaitan Matthew had stolen from the company.
