Minister of Works Dave Umahi has refuted accusations made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole regarding the distribution of federal road construction projects. The Edo North representative had recently criticized the minister for allegedly displaying favoritism and lacking a national perspective, claiming that routes connecting major cities like Benin, Warri, and Asaba were being neglected.
During a site inspection on Friday, Umahi addressed the lawmaker’s complaints directly. He pointed out that one of the specific roads mentioned in the critique was already under contract since 2018, a period during which Oshiomhole was serving as the governor of Edo State. The minister suggested that the senator should have taken the initiative to facilitate the road’s construction during his own tenure in office rather than voicing grievances now.
Umahi emphasized that he prefers to reason with the senator rather than engage in a public debate. He acknowledged their past professional relationship, noting that they were both serving in state government positions simultaneously in the past. Highlighting his own history as a former governor, Umahi stated that he frequently undertook federal road projects without expressing dissatisfaction, implying that such actions should be standard practice for public officials.
