Law enforcement officials from the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have confiscated a collection of counterfeit diplomatic and government-issued vehicle license plates found circulating within Abuja. FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, presented the findings during a press conference on Friday.
Commissioner Sanusi initiated a probe after noticing a rise in the illicit use of these plates. His investigation confirmed that criminals were utilizing labels such as Presidency, Senator, and House of Representatives to hide their identities, facilitate illegal activities, and dodge police detection. Authorities have successfully traced the production network behind these fake tags.
Several suspects linked to the scheme are currently detained and will face formal charges once police inquiries conclude. The Command also showcased several vehicles fitted with these unauthorized plates to the media. Sanusi reaffirmed the commitment of the police force to enhancing public safety, vowing to persist in efforts to minimize criminal operations throughout the territory.
