The Nigerian Auctioneers Association (NAA) has raised concerns regarding individuals posing as its representatives while the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) auctions forfeited assets. In a recent statement, the group clarified that Benjamin Abhulimen Isibor does not represent their interests.
NAA President, Alhaji Musa Kurra, stated that Isibor has been falsely claiming the title of association president. Kurra was legally elected at the National Delegates Conference in Ibadan on October 28, 2023, a position confirmed by judicial order. The association currently has a case pending at the National Industrial Court in Bauchi against Isibor regarding this unauthorized behavior.
Despite this conflict, the NAA expressed strong support for the EFCC’s digital auction system. Under Chairman Ola Olukoyede, the agency has moved toward a more transparent and open process for selling confiscated goods. The NAA noted that this electronic platform has improved public involvement and reduced dishonest practices. They have worked closely with the EFCC to address early procedural issues and continue to endorse the agency’s efforts.
The association warned the public, government agencies, and financial institutions to ignore any claims made by Isibor. Only members officially certified by the NAA possess the authority to manage public auctions within Nigeria. The organization has escalated the matter to security and regulatory authorities for investigation and requests that the press verify the credentials of any individual claiming to speak for the NAA through its national headquarters.
