The Ogun State Police Command has launched a search and rescue mission following the kidnapping of students from Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade. Armed individuals targeted a private off-campus hostel in Ipara on Wednesday night, leading to the abduction of five students. Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed that tactical teams and intelligence units are currently scouring the area to locate the victims and identify the attackers.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid sharing unverified information on social media, noting that such rumors can interfere with active investigations. While the police are still finalizing details regarding the incident, the school’s Students’ Union Government (SUG) has clarified that five students were taken. The union noted that the gunmen invaded the hostel, located in a secluded area near Paraga Road, around 7:45 p.m. and fired shots for approximately 30 minutes.
The SUG leadership, including President Akinpelu Bukunmi Timothy, confirmed that no fatalities occurred during the raid. Some students managed to escape by breaking through ceiling structures, though five were captured. The union has advised students to choose accommodation in more secure, populated areas and is working alongside school management to assist security agencies in the safe return of their peers.
