The Ebonyi State Police Command is reinforcing the orders set by the Inspector-General of Police, urging all personnel to prioritize ethics, discipline, and the protection of citizens’ rights. Commissioner of Police Hope Urunwa-Okafor issued these instructions during a recent assembly with senior leadership, including Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers, following a national strategy meeting.
SP Joshua Ukandu, the command’s spokesperson, stated that the session aimed to solidify operational guidelines and ethical standards. Commissioner Urunwa-Okafor explicitly forbade unprofessional behaviors such as extortion, harassment, and rude interactions with civilians, noting that offenders will face strict consequences.
Leadership at all levels must now intensify personnel supervision, as supervisors will be liable for the actions of their subordinates. Furthermore, the Commissioner prohibited the unauthorized searching of personal electronic devices, citing this as a breach of constitutional rights. As election-related activities approach, officers are tasked with boosting intelligence operations to secure the state and improve the force’s public image through integrity and courtesy.
