Over the past year, the Yobe State Police Command successfully processed 407 criminal matters, resulting in 152 convictions. Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin presented these findings on Thursday at the command headquarters in Damaturu.
The breakdown of the 407 cases includes 31 homicide investigations, 35 sexual assault reports, eight kidnappings, 11 armed robberies, and 322 additional criminal offenses. Authorities took 448 individuals into custody regarding these incidents. Of the total cases, 152 led to convictions, while 127 remain in active litigation. Another 69 files are currently pending, 17 await legal guidance, and 42 individuals were cleared of charges.
Highlighting specific enforcement actions, the Commissioner detailed the discovery of a clandestine drug facility in Potiskum. Officers seized eight cartons of narcotics, significant quantities of Tramadol and Exzol, and N835,500 believed to be linked to drug profits. Despite violent opposition from the suspects, police successfully apprehended a key operator and continue to pursue others involved. Furthermore, raids in Jakusko Local Government Area resulted in the detention of 14 people and the confiscation of various banned substances, including Indian hemp and Vega tablets.
Commissioner Jibrin emphasized that the command remains dedicated to proactive crime prevention, intelligence-driven operations, and safeguarding the security of local residents.
