President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has cautioned state governors against allocating state funds toward the construction of redundant flyover projects. During a meeting with the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the President emphasized that resources would be better spent on improving overall road infrastructure to benefit the daily lives of citizens.
Tinubu argued that building flyovers in areas lacking high traffic density is an inefficient use of public money. He highlighted that monthly payments from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) have seen a four to five-fold increase, providing states with more fiscal space. The President noted that his administration has successfully halted the trend of sub-national governments relying on loans to cover basic salary and pension obligations. Recent data indicates that the three tiers of government shared at least N53.3 trillion from the FAAC pool between March 2023 and May 2026.
