The Accord party has leveled serious accusations against the All Progressives Congress and the Osun State Police Command, claiming they are employing fear tactics to influence the upcoming August 15 gubernatorial election. According to National Chairman Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem, roughly 100 party members, candidates, and local leaders have been detained in a targeted effort to sabotage their electoral campaign.
Mgbudem asserted that several detainees were relocated to Abuja to cripple the party’s momentum. The organization argued that police involvement has shifted from maintaining order to actively undermining a fair democratic process, specifically citing raids on the homes of various government officials and a lack of response to earlier acts of violence against Accord facilities and supporters. The party remains firm in its stance that the ballot will prevail over force, declaring that its supporters will not be intimidated.
As a result, Accord is calling for the immediate replacement of Osun State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan, whom they accuse of failing to remain neutral. The party has requested urgent intervention from President Bola Tinubu, the Inspector-General of Police, and international observers to ensure a free and fair contest.
