The Osun State Police Command has officially announced that Teslim Igbalaye, the Secretary to the State Government, is no longer in detention. Igbalaye and five other individuals were initially held until Thursday following allegations of vote-buying, which led to the recovery of cash, voter registers, and Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) from his premises.
Alongside the secretary, police arrested several others at the property, including Abiodun Arowomole—a suspect previously listed as wanted for murder—as well as Taiwo Akande, Lukman Adeyemo, Muftau Olaoye, and Musiliu Aderemi. According to police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, while Igbalaye has been released, the formal investigation into the matter continues.
The news of the secretary’s release prompted celebratory reactions from supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke. Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, issued a statement thanking Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu and Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan for their decision to release the official. Olajengbesi characterized the initial arrest as unlawful and praised the police leadership for upholding justice while urging the force to continue resisting political pressure.
