Kenechi Okaeze, Manager of the Rivers Port Complex, has dismissed claims that the Nigerian Ports Authority has disregarded the Eastern Ports. Speaking at a gathering of the Maritime Correspondents Organisation of Nigeria in Port Harcourt on behalf of Minister Adegboyega Oyetola, Okaeze emphasized that the government is actively upgrading regional maritime infrastructure.
Addressing industry feedback, Okaeze confirmed that six berths at the Rivers Port Complex have undergone reconstruction to enhance operational capacity. Furthermore, efforts are underway to deepen navigation channels, which will allow larger vessels to dock and help decrease reliance on long-distance road transport for cargo.
By improving access to these facilities, the government intends to lower transportation expenses and enhance safety by reducing heavy truck traffic on highways. Okaeze remains confident that these improvements will restore the competitive standing of the Eastern Ports within the national maritime sector.
