Nigerian artist Peter Okoye, known as Mr P, has publicly apologized following a backlash over his comments about Nigerian languages. The controversy began when the former P-Square member responded to a social media inquiry about whether his children speak Igbo by asking, “Who Naija language help?” The comment drew immediate criticism across digital platforms.
In a statement posted to X on Wednesday, the singer clarified that his words were misinterpreted. He explained that his original post was simply about his children learning French and his desire to purchase property in Paris. He insisted that he does not harbor negative feelings toward any Nigerian culture or language, including Igbo. He stated that his reference to “Naija language” was a general term and was not aimed at any specific ethnic group.
While acknowledging the public frustration, Mr P redirected his frustration toward his twin brother, Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy. He accused his brother of exploiting the situation to damage his public reputation. Mr P alleged that this was part of a pattern of behavior from his brother, citing previous instances where he claims Rudeboy mocked his career choices. Asserting that he is finished with remaining silent, he promised to respond to such attacks directly in the future, stating he is no longer prioritizing a peace-keeping approach.
