Abia ADC Opposes Massive Election Advertising Fees for 2027

The ADC in Abia State has condemned the new, high-cost advertising fees imposed by the state’s signage agency, claiming they violate electoral law and hinder opposition candidates.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abia State is voicing strong opposition to the fresh campaign advertising rates introduced by the Abia State Structure for Signage and Advertising Agency (ABSSAA). These new charges mandate payments of N200 million for presidential hopefuls and N150 million for gubernatorial candidates.

Additional costs have been set at N150 million for senatorial contenders, N50 million for House of Representatives candidates, and N20 million for those running for the House of Assembly. Kalu Kalu, the Abia ADC Chairman, publicly challenged these figures during the agency’s announcement in Aba on Wednesday.

Attended by ADC House of Assembly candidate for Arochukwu, Francess Ogbonnaya Tabitha, the party leadership argued that these exorbitant prices violate campaign spending limits defined by the Electoral Act. Kalu suggested that these fees stifle competition and undermine democratic fairness ahead of the 2027 elections. He urged the agency to revise the costs to prevent legal conflicts and ensure compliance with federal law. In response, ABSSAA officials maintained that their policies are applied uniformly and do not target any specific political party.
