A civil society group, Transparency Watch, has challenged wealthy Nigerians and political leaders to adopt the altruistic and community-focused leadership displayed by Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari of Zamfara West. The organization believes the senator’s consistent use of his own funds and influence to assist vulnerable residents serves as a model for public service.
Cliff Richards, the Director of Public Affairs for the group, stated that the senator’s development projects have set him apart from his peers. Yari has maintained a focus on citizen welfare since his time as governor, extending this dedication into his current role at the National Assembly.
The group specifically pointed to his provision of subsidised fertilisers for farmers and the distribution of essential food supplies like rice and grains to constituents regardless of their background. Beyond direct aid, Yari has utilized his position as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Water Resources and Sanitation to improve national infrastructure, including the installation of solar-powered boreholes in his home state.
The organization also praised his efforts to reduce joblessness, noting his sponsorship of numerous youths from Zamfara West into the Nigerian Army. Transparency Watch maintains that such initiatives offer vital prospects for young people and strengthen local livelihoods, encouraging other officials to prioritize similar citizen-centered policies.
