President Bola Tinubu has formally expressed his intention to pursue re-election in 2027, asserting that rivals aiming for the presidency must be prepared for a rigorous political contest. He shared these sentiments while hosting the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria at the State House in Abuja.
Addressing claims regarding the Independent National Electoral Commission, Tinubu denied allegations of bias, noting that the agency has not harassed any political groups. He suggested that critics might be struggling with their own internal fears rather than actual electoral interference. He emphasized that he would not make his seat easy to capture, stating that he and his opponents would face a hard-fought battle to the end.
The President also addressed his administration’s track record, arguing that the standard of living for citizens is on an upward trajectory. He highlighted the resolution of prolonged academic strikes, such as those involving ASUU, as a significant success. While acknowledging that security hurdles remain, he maintained that he inherited these systemic issues and is fully committed to confronting them for the benefit of future generations.
