Former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly has cast doubt on the wisdom of signing French international Max Lacroix. Speaking with BOYLE Sports, Desailly argued that the club should prioritize acquiring a more experienced, elite-level center-back capable of commanding the defensive line.
Desailly emphasized that finding the right candidate is the responsibility of manager Enzo Maresca and the club leadership. He noted that while Lacroix performed capably for Crystal Palace, the transition to the high-pressure environment at Stamford Bridge represents a significantly different challenge. Desailly specifically pointed to underwhelming displays by Lacroix for the French national team against Spain and England as evidence that he might not be ready for the step up.
While acknowledging Lacroix’s previous success within a three-man defensive structure, the legend remains skeptical about his ability to transition into a four-man line. Currently, Lacroix is on break following his international duties with France.
