In a stunning upset during Tuesday’s Group C opener in Rabat, Morocco, tournament newcomers Malawi defeated the record-holding Nigerian team 3-2. Playing at Al Madina Stadium, the Malawian squad—known as the Scorchers—clinched their victory with three second-half goals. Temwa Chawinga found the back of the net twice, while Tabita Chawinga added another. Although Nigeria attempted a late comeback through a penalty from Rasheedat Ajibade and a goal by Uchenna Kanu, they could not overcome the deficit.
