Omoyele Sowore, the African Alliance Congress presidential candidate, has decided against calling Tosin Ajayi, the Director General of the Department of State Service, as a witness in his ongoing defamation trial involving President Bola Tinubu. Sowore acknowledged during Tuesday’s hearing that the information he initially sought from the DSS director is available through other department officials.
Attorney General and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi represented the federal government during the proceedings. Fagbemi previously challenged the subpoena, noting that the document in question was not written by Ajayi. Furthermore, he pointed out that Uwen Davis, the actual author of the letter, had already testified on Sowore’s behalf on July 22, 2026. Because the document had already been admitted into evidence twice, the prosecution argued that calling the director was unnecessary.
During the session, defense lawyer Olumide Fusika questioned the participation of Fagbemi, citing that court records list Akinlolu Kehinde as the government’s legal counsel. The case has been postponed until August 3, 2026, for further defense presentations.
