On Tuesday, a group of residents from Girei and Song local government areas blocked the main entrance of the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) headquarters in Adamawa State. Their action halted daily operations and prevented both staff and clients from entering the facility.
The demonstrators expressed frustration over a blackout lasting more than two months. They claimed that multiple discussions with company representatives failed to produce any meaningful improvements, and that previous assurances remained unfulfilled.
Economic activities, healthcare services, and education have been severely hindered by the lack of electricity. Participants in the protest insisted they would remain on-site until power is returned. They also demanded that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission revoke the company’s operating license.
Security forces were present at the scene to oversee the situation. As of now, YEDC has not released a formal response to the protest.
