Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) gubernatorial candidate for Sokoto State, recently argued that the mass closure of primary and secondary schools in the region serves as evidence of the administration’s inability to manage security challenges. This statement was released through his media representative, Aminu Abdullahi.
Currently, academic operations have been suspended in 20 out of the 23 local government areas in Sokoto, with only Wamakko, Sokoto North, and Sokoto South remaining unaffected. Dan’iya acknowledged that the government likely initiated these shutdowns to ensure the safety of students and staff, yet he emphasized that the move underlines a deteriorating security environment.
He noted that while student protection is paramount, the inability to provide a secure space for education is a significant failure. The closure has deprived many children of their schooling, representing a major hurdle for the state’s development. Dan’iya remarked that enduring progress is impossible when violence and fear prevent children from learning. He pointed out that the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) campaigned on a promise of improved security, yet communities continue to face kidnappings, killings, and displacement. Concluding his statement, he urged residents to scrutinize current leadership performance and called for the implementation of more effective security strategies.
