The Bauchi State Police Command has launched an investigation into an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and a civilian accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in the Itas/Gadau Local Government Area. Security analyst Zagazola Makama brought the matter to public attention.
Mohammed Saleh, the girl’s 42-year-old father, filed a formal complaint on July 22. He stated that the police officer, stationed at the Itas Divisional Headquarters, allegedly used N1,000 to lure his daughter on July 2 while she walked home from Aisam Academy Secondary School. Reports indicate the officer took the child to a drainage dam near the local government secretariat to carry out the assault.
Separately, 50-year-old Babangida Mai Shayi of Gambo Quarters is accused of sexually assaulting the same child on July 10. He allegedly enticed her with N200 to enter his business location. Law enforcement officials have since conducted site visits and transported the victim to the General Hospital in Itas for medical assessment.
Authorities have detained the civilian suspect. Meanwhile, the police officer is facing a formal inquiry involving both disciplinary and criminal proceedings. The command confirmed that investigations are active to determine the facts and pursue necessary legal measures.
