A partnership of civil society groups and health stakeholders has introduced the Open Lagos Health Sector Spot-Check. This initiative aims to evaluate 72 public health centers across 18 local government areas in Lagos, supporting the push to meet the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. From August 3 to August 7, 2026, trained teams will perform rapid assessments of primary and secondary facilities, focusing on infrastructure, staffing levels, and service quality.
Key groups involved include LACSOP, LASAM, PHSAI, and CCSI, working alongside government bodies like the Ministry of Health and the Primary Health Care Board. The data collected will be presented at an upcoming dialogue featuring officials, community leaders, and private sector representatives to address systemic issues. LACSOP Coordinator Ayo Adebusoye noted that the review is vital for tracking progress ahead of the 2030 deadline and helps align future budgets with actual service needs.
LASAM Evidence Subcommittee Chairman Basit Baruwa clarified that this is a performance audit rather than a routine survey. By analyzing one year of facility records alongside on-site observations, the team intends to pinpoint specific operational weaknesses. Abiodun Ajayi of CCSI added that the goal is to create shared accountability, ensuring that findings lead to practical improvements rather than sitting in a report. Organizers hope to make this an annual event to foster transparency and improve healthcare delivery for all Lagos residents.
