Olympic gold medalist Daniel Wiffen narrowly missed a podium spot, placing fourth in a demanding 800m freestyle race held at the Tollcross Swimming Centre. Wiffen recorded a time of 7:48.82, trailing Australian swimmer Matthew Galea by slightly more than nine seconds after a persistent struggle for the third-place position throughout the duration of the event.
Sam Short, who previously topped the 400m race where Wiffen came in fifth, comfortably captured the gold. Meanwhile, Benjamin Goedemans secured the silver medal to complete a strong performance for the Australian team. Looking ahead, the 25-year-old athlete is set to compete in the 1500m final this coming Wednesday, an event where he previously achieved bronze success at both the Paris Olympics and the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
