The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has issued a firm warning to university administrations, stating that the intimidation of staff members due to their involvement in legitimate union affairs will face strong resistance. This declaration was released following the union’s 55th National Executive Council meeting at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi.
Mohammed Ibrahim, the National President of SSANU, emphasized that universities must stop withholding negotiated benefits, stalling promotions, or utilizing harassment and punitive transfers as disciplinary measures against personnel. The union demands that the 2026 agreement be honored entirely and without any bias.
SSANU is urging the rapid activation of the Implementation Monitoring Committee to oversee adherence to the 2026 agreement. The union has also requested that federal and state authorities release the necessary funding to cover salary arrears and facilitate the new emolument structures. While the union acknowledged institutions that have already paid outstanding increases, it reprimanded those still delaying payments, citing the need to support employee welfare during current economic hardships.
