A group of civil society organizations, operating as the Election Observation Hub (EOB), has requested that the Nigeria Police Force and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) remain strictly impartial during the upcoming August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State. This move is intended to bolster public trust in the electoral system.
Dr. Akin Akingbulu, representing a coalition that includes CEMESO, ElectHer, the International Press Centre, the Nigeria Women Trust Fund, TAF Africa, The Kukah Centre, and Yiaga Africa, emphasized that the integrity of this election will influence the national perception of the 2027 general elections. During a press event in Osogbo, he noted that while preparations are ongoing, factors such as security risks, political tension, and the need for inclusive participation demand immediate attention.
The EOB is calling on INEC to manage the deployment of personnel and materials effectively, while ensuring the smooth operation of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and the IReV result portal. Furthermore, the coalition expects security agencies to utilize intelligence-driven strategies to protect voters, media personnel, and officials, particularly in high-risk zones. The organization plans to maintain active monitoring across Osun State to promote a peaceful and transparent democratic process.
