Chelsea is currently engaged in significant discussions regarding the acquisition of Brighton forward Danny Welbeck. The 35-year-old player is reportedly interested in moving to Stamford Bridge to play under the leadership of new head coach Xabi Alonso.
The London club is actively seeking to add veteran presence to their squad. This shift follows comments made in April by owner Behdad Eghbali, who suggested that the club’s strategy of focusing exclusively on young prospects requires adjustment. Welbeck, a former player for Manchester United, Sunderland, Arsenal, and Watford, is viewed as a suitable candidate for this new approach.
During the previous season, Welbeck recorded a personal-best 13 league goals across 37 appearances. Since his arrival from Watford in 2020, he has netted 51 goals in 201 matches. Although he signed a one-year contract extension in March that ties him to Brighton through the 2026-27 season, Chelsea appears motivated to secure his services.
