Arise Television presenter Rufai Oseni has expressed dissatisfaction with a recent media appearance by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Oseni contended that the former Anambra State governor failed to offer concrete policy strategies for solving national issues during his recent interview on Channels Television.
Oseni emphasized that candidates must transition from making general pledges to outlining the precise mechanisms behind their initiatives. He remarked that governance cannot be sustained on sentiment alone, asserting that citizens deserve to see detailed manifestos with only months remaining before the election. According to Oseni, the public needs to evaluate the feasibility of proposed ideas rather than relying on vague assurances.
The broadcaster specifically challenged the tendency of candidates to promise solutions to insecurity without clarifying their broader methodology. He clarified that while candidates are not expected to reveal classified operational secrets, they must present a clear, overarching strategy. Furthermore, Oseni pointed to the power sector as a prime example of where technical depth is missing. He argued that instead of simple promises, leaders should explain how they plan to address transmission bottlenecks and secure necessary infrastructure investment to increase megawatt capacity.
