The Independent National Electoral Commission in Osun State has confirmed it remains oblivious to any internal divisions within the National Union of Road Transport Workers as it organizes logistics for the upcoming governorship election on August 15. Resident Electoral Commissioner Oluwatoyin Babalola addressed the matter at a town hall session in Osogbo, hosted by the Civil Society Network on Election Integrity.
Babalola clarified that the commission coordinates logistics exclusively with the national leadership of the NURTW, as mandated by an established Memorandum of Understanding. She emphasized that INEC has received no reports regarding splinter groups within the organization and continues to interface with national representatives. In addition to the NURTW, the commission collaborates with the National Association of Road Transport Owners to manage the movement of election personnel and equipment.
The commission has already finalized training for transport providers in every local government area. Furthermore, officials will inspect all designated vehicles on the Tuesday and Wednesday before the election to verify compliance with the safety and quality standards outlined in the agreement. These preparations proceed despite recent leadership changes implemented by the national union body within the Osun State chapter.
