President Bola Tinubu has selected Dr. Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart to serve as his new Special Adviser on National Assembly matters, specifically for the House of Representatives. He takes over the role from Hon. Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who stepped down to pursue a political position in his home state.
Dr. Olanrewaju-Smart brings significant academic and policy experience to the role. He earned a PhD in educational management from Lead City University and a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University, where he was also an Edward Mason Fellow. His background includes time as a LEAPS Fellow at MIT and a policy fellowship at Quantum Alliance AI, alongside a professional diploma from the London School of Public Relations.
His career is deeply rooted in the House of Representatives, having served in various capacities including Research and Media Assistant, Special Adviser, and Chief of Staff to the Speaker across the 7th through 10th Assemblies. Before this latest appointment, he worked as the senior special assistant to the president on intergovernmental affairs starting in October 2023. He has contributed to key legislative efforts, such as the Interest-Free Student Loan Act.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga announced that the appointment is effective immediately. President Tinubu expressed his belief that Dr. Olanrewaju-Smart will utilize his background to improve legislative cooperation and communication between the executive branch, government agencies, and the House of Representatives.
