The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed satisfaction with a Federal High Court ruling that dismissed a lawsuit initiated by Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide against the leadership of Senator David Mark. The party stated that the judgment effectively resolves the ongoing internal dispute, enabling them to prioritize addressing Nigeria’s pressing economic and security concerns.
National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi explained that Justice M. S. Liman rejected the suit due to a lack of jurisdiction. The court upheld the legitimacy of Senator David Mark and his National Working Committee, instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to formally recognize them, and imposed fines on Abejide and his legal representatives.
The ADC emphasized that the ruling reinforces their stance that internal party leadership is not a matter for the courts under the Electoral Act of 2022. They described the outcome as a triumph for multiparty democracy, expressing hope that it puts an end to attempts to destabilize the opposition. Looking forward, the party intends to focus on providing viable alternatives to the current hardships facing the nation, including inflation and instability, rather than being diverted by litigation. The party thanked its supporters for their loyalty and urged them to remain unified.
