Rabi’u Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that the Northern region should not maintain a monopoly on Nigeria’s leadership. He expressed this view during a television interview on News Central.
Highlighting his current political ticket, where he serves as a running mate to a Southern presidential candidate, Kwankwaso suggested this partnership challenges the notion that the North must always hold the top office. He emphasized that the Northern region values principles of equity, justice, and reciprocal respect between both parts of the country.
This platform comes as the NDC organizes for the 2027 electoral cycle, featuring Peter Obi as the presidential lead. Historically, Kwankwaso declined a similar role with Obi during the 2023 race, citing the political sentiment in the North that preferred the presidency stay in the region following Muhammadu Buhari’s two terms.
