To guarantee a smooth process for the upcoming Osun governorship election on August 15, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a mock accreditation event scheduled for August 1, 2026.
Ariyo Rufus, speaking on behalf of Resident Electoral Commissioner Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, explained that the trial is intended to evaluate the readiness of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). While the process will mirror actual election day protocols, the commission emphasized that no actual voting will occur.
The test will be held in specific polling units across all three senatorial districts. In Osun Central, the event will span Osogbo, Olorunda, Ifelodun, and Boripe. In Osun East, the selected areas include Ilesa-West, Ilesa-East, Oriade, and Obokun. Finally, Egbedore, Ede-North, Ede-South, and Ejigbo represent the districts chosen for Osun West.
Registered voters assigned to these specific units are encouraged to participate, provided they bring their valid Permanent Voter Cards. INEC officials reiterated that this initiative serves strictly to verify the performance of the BVAS technology under realistic conditions. The commission remains dedicated to delivering a transparent and fair electoral process, inviting cooperation from political parties, media outlets, and civil society groups.
